About Ian
QUALIFICATIONS/BACKGROUND:Ian McKenzie was elected as the Councillor for the ward of Holland Park in 2008 as part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman's team.
Living in the ward and married to Josie with twins, they are a close family with a vigorous work ethic. Ian's interest in local affairs commenced early, gaining a BA majoring in political science. This led to neighbourhood participation in issues over many years.
He understands the pressures on parents with family and work responsibilities through owning the Morningside childcare centre for 13 years. The business developed his practical leadership, interpersonal and financial management skills, assisted by knowledge gained through a Masters of Business Administration degree.
Ian has a genuine desire to listen, analyse and act on Holland Park issues, big and small. He has held responsible positions in the private and public sectors and holds a Masters of Public Administration degree.
A keen runner, swimmer and bike rider, Ian also enjoys the theatre and music. He encourages residents to contact him and discuss local and city wide issues.

Community Assistance
Ian has approved just over $340,000 to date, of Lord Mayors Suburban Initiative Funding, to community organisations within the Holland Park Ward. A detailed list can be viewed under 'Our Local Area'. Applications for funding can be lodged up to 30 June 2011.
Results delivered to the ward
Safety in the ward is paramount and the deliverery of traffic lights at Invermore St and Logan Road and Wycroft St and Cavendish Road is a propriety. The bus indent at Cavendish Road increases safety for school students.
As a result of the 2008-09 budget, the ward has secured substantial funding for the upgrade of parks namely Mott, Seville and Scott Parks.
Furthermore, through the 2008-09 Brisbane City Council Budget, Ian has helped to deliver…
- $360,000 towards an intersection upgrade at Old Cleveland and Boundary Rds
- $200,000 for Traffic Calming on Newman Avenue and Leicester Street
- $330,000 for Road Resurfacing of Holland Road in Holland Park
- $103,000 for new footpaths and bikeways on Logan Road
