Councillor Makes School Crossing Safer

29 August, 2014

The Holland Park State School crossing and pick up and drop off areas have always presented safety issues due to the width and shape of the streets.

Councillor Ian McKenzie (Holland Park Ward) made successfully representations to the city’s infrastructure Committee on behalf of the school to fix this problem.

Council has agreed to install concrete footpath buildouts on both sides of Abottsleigh Street and in Wilbur Street to make safer drop off and pick ups.

Cr McKenzie said, “The project will alleviate poor sight lines at the children’s crossing, vehicles queuing back into the crossing and vehicles turning left into the crossing with out taking adequate care.

It is expected that unsafe parking behaviour by busy parents near the crossing will be lessened.

The buildouts will also afford safer working conditions for crossing supervisors who must stands on the crest and the curve of these roads.
