08 June, 2011

Brisbane City Council and the Lord Mayor's Office want to empower the women and men of Brisbane to feel more safe and confident in public places. Hence the Personal Safety Project was put in place for all citizens of Brisbane.

This is a project offering seminars and workshops in Personal Safety, Self Defence and Empowerment. All sessions are designed and delivered by SDVMA www.sdvma.com with the basic premise of equipping women and men with the knowledge needed to manage aggressive behaviour, and to reduce the risk of personal attack.

Seniors in the community have two choices: to either come along to the very appropriate ‘public seminars’ for everybody over 18 years of age. Or via any Neighbourhood Watch, or seniors club or group, to arrange their own seminar at a time and place of their choosing.

Sessions cover:

- Confidence / self image
- Myths & facts relating to violence
- Communication / body language
- Assertiveness / dealing with confrontation
- Fear management
- Awareness
- Road rage
- Bag snatching
- Safety on public transport
- Safety in the home
- Self defence skills
- Options to physical self defence skills
- Legal issues
- Question & answer time
